Write an argumentative synthesis of the excerpts read from Karl Marx and F.A. Hayek. To synthesize means to combine two seemingly disparate elements to make a unified third element. Understanding that, you should draw from both Marx and Hayek to develop a thesis about which economic system you believe to be of the greatest benefit to mankind: free market capitalism or communism. Bear in mind that history has repudiated much of Marxist ideology, but it still persists in countries such as North Korea, Cuba, and China. Why is this so? To what degree are Western universities and intellectuals responsible for perpetuating a discredited economic theory at whose feet can be laid the deaths of hundreds of millions of people? Consider Hayek’s view that govenrment control of the economy inevitably leads to control of other aspects of the lives of the citizenry. Is this true? If so, why?
