Qualitative Research Proposal

Section 1: Introduction/Research Topic (Topic of paper provided in word document)

This section should highlight the elements of the topic. The introduction should introduce the reader to the topic (and variables). The variables should be generally discussed in the introduction. You can define them and discuss any elements or issues in this section. This section should be approximately 5 6 paragraphs and include any pertinent information from previous studies (quantitative or qualitative) and general information about the issue/topic.

Several sources/references should be used throughout this section to give the reader a good understanding of the topic and issues with the topic. For instance, if I were exploring the perception of dual enrollment courses, I would present information about what dual enrollment is, what type of classes are completed by dual enrollment students, the number of dual enrollment programs in the U.S. and in my specific area, why it is important to explore the perception of dual enrollment students, etc.
In this section you need to identify the population that you will sample.

My suggestion for this section is to approach it like a paper on the topic and issues.

Section 2: Sampling Methods

The next section is Sampling Methods. This section should be 3 4 paragraphs.
For this section, you need to provide an overview of the population (from the previous section) and then discuss the sample. How will the sample be selected? What is the best method for selecting the sample? What methodology is appropriate (grounded theory? Case study? Phenomenology?) After identifying the methodology and how the sample will be selected, provide a justification for the choices. There is a video in the week 4 content that should be helpful with this section. Make sure to reference throughout the section.

Section 3: Procedure

The procedure section should detail what would be done (survey, interview, focus group, observations, etc) and how the data would be collected and analyzed.pecifically define the variables and identify what you would do if you were conducting this research. For example, after obtaining a sample of 20 individuals between the ages of 18 & 25, you would want to interview them and maybe give them a survey/questionnaire.

In this section there needs to be details on how you would obtain data (make sure to define/detail what would be used and include a justification for the selection) and how the information will be analyzed. This section should be 3 4 paragraphs. Make sure to reference throughout the section

The last page should be the reference page. Make sure to include all sources used. There is not a minimum number of references but approximately 8 10 sources (most will be used in the introduction/topic section).

I am also including a qualitative research study. Read this study. The first few sections are exactly what is needed for the final project (introduction, sampling, methods, procedures). Use this a guide for the final project. I will note that we do not typically have the interview questions in the format of this study. For the project, the interview questions should be included as an appendix.
