Methodological nationalism and liberal modernity are social imaginaries that are often presume bright differences between nations and, in doing so, obscure the dynamism of borders and borderlands, the effects of colonialism and post colonialism, and the diversity within given nation. Foregrounding diaspora can allow for the participation in alternative modes of knowledge production that prioritize the histories and politics of boarders, colonialism, and diversity. But what is a diaspora? And what are the histories and intellectual traditions upon which this term rests?
