Compare and contrast the social contract theories (including theories of human nature reflected in their states of nature and any relevant differences to the structure or content of their respective contracts) of Hobbes and Locke. To what extent does Locke depart from key assumptions of Hobbes, and how does this affect the politics that he endorses?
2. How do the critiques from The Sexual Contract and The Racial Contract apply to the social contract theories of Hobbes and Locke? Do these critiques apply specifically to these social contract theories (and if so, how do they), or are they intended to apply more widely (e.g. to the western canon as a whole, or to patriarchal or settler colonial societies)? Can the social contract accommodate their critique (why or why not)?
