Essay Questions
Essay 1. – REQUIRED – Why have you chosen to pursue a career in nursing and what are your professional goals? What are the skills and talents you possess that will contribute to your future work as a nurse? If you are a second degree student, also discuss why nursing is a better career choice at this time in your life.
(I am Cuban and I went to medical school for three years in my country. I did not finished because I came to the US. My parents are also doctors and I have been interested in the medical field my whole life as I like to help people and it is also the environment in which I grow up as my parents where forced to work even when they have nobody else to take care of me so my mom took me with her to the clinic every day until I got the age to go to school…)

Essay 2. – REQUIRED – Describe a very difficult and/or rewarding experience you have had, and discuss how you dealt with it. Discuss in detail the way in which this particular experience impacted your life, and how it might influence your future practice as a nurse.
(My mom had a heart surgery when I was 13 years olds, when I turn 15 my dad was diagnosed with cancer, and recently (3 months ago) my step dad (who raised me) was also diagnosed with cancer and passed away two weeks after the diagnose. I am a strong woman who know how feels to lose someone as well as how to deal with a disease. I think my past experiences can help me as a nurse as I am able not only to support the patients but their families as well…)

Essay 3. – REQUIRED – Cultural humility is the ability to be open to new ideas and other cultures, while still being true to your own. Nurses must work effectively with diverse populations (patients and coworkers) from a wide variety of backgrounds. Discuss a situation in which you worked effectively with someone whom you initially viewed as different from yourself.
(well I am from Cuba and i just came to the US 4 years ago. before that I never been in touch with someone from a different country so I have no idea about other cultures, languages, and religions and now I do…)
