Political Science- Social Contract Theory
The works of Hobbes and Locke along with other theorists of the 1600s collectively introduce the idea of a social contract or an agreement specifically laying out the governments responsibility to its people and thepeoples responsibilities toward their government.
Think about the Covid-19 Virus spreading across the globe and the many changes we’ve made to our daily lives. Many leading scientists have advised that we wear masks now. One of the reasons behind this request is not necessarily for the wearer to be safer, but to keep others safe from possibly spreading it to others.
Given the Social Contract Theory, what (if any) are our responsibilities to other citizens?
Further, what are the governments responsibilities to us? Are there periods where the social contract has been broken by citizens or governments?
