Poem to use: Alexander Pope “Ode on Solitude”

Major Paper: Source Research Argument

The Assignment:
Poem to use: Alexander Pope “Ode on Solitude”

For this assignment you are to analyze one poem where you will attempt to write an academic article that enters into conversation with other academic articles. You will need to find at least four academic articles (feel free to use the Academic Articles that I provided in any of the modules including the Criticism articles from renowned academics) and incorporate them into your argument. You should use at least one article in your Preconceived Notion (see How to Write an Academic Paper in Module 8) and you should use at least one article to support your thesis (again, see How to Write an Academic Paper in Module 8). Feel free to choose any poem from the poems Ive provided in the modules; do not, however, seek out poems the we did not cover in this class. If you think your argument would benefit by a comparison between the poem you choose and another poem in the Modules or from one of the narratives from Modules 2-7, then feel free to make such comparisons. Just keep in mind that the subject of your analysis should be one and only one poem.

For this assignment you will have to use the Library databases to find additional articles (see Accessing Library Databases below). Do not use google, google scholar, or Wikipedia. In fact, the only databases that you should use to access an additional scholarship must be either Academic Search Complete (EBSCOhost), Academic OneFile (Gale), Gale Literature Criticism, or JSTOR.

Rubric:

Be sure to use the academic articles claims about the literary work in question as your Preconceived Notion and to use logic and evidence to support your these (see How to Write an Academic Essay in Module 8). Also, remember to keep your tone and style consistent with academic writing (see Tips for Academic Style in Module 8) and to include a Works Cited page in MLA format that cites both work of literature and the academic article that you use (see MLA Readings in Module 8).

An A (90-100) means that
