Formal Argument Process Essay: Op-Ed
An op-ed, short for “opposite the editorial page” or “opinion editorial”, is a written prose piece typically published by a newspaper or magazine that expresses the opinion of an author usually not affiliated with the publication’s editorial board. Op-eds are different from both editorials (opinion pieces submitted by editorial board members) and letters to the editor (opinion pieces submitted by readers). -Wikipedia
The goal is for students to construct a clear, rhetorically sound argument that supports an assertion with convincing evidence and reasoning, using a structure that advances the argument logically and persuasively. -College Board Course Description
Task: Argue your position on a current local, national or global issue. In this context, argument means asserting a claim justified by evidence and/or reasoning.
Choose a viable issue
