This task asks you to consider the teaching of writing with particular emphasis on middle and upper primary students from a range of linguistic, cultural, religious backgrounds, learning English as an additional language (EAL). To compete this task, you need to:
SELECT A YEAR LEVEL (years 3-6) and a cross-curricular topic area for teaching (the topic area for this research paper is sustainability).
Drawing on the four stages of the Curriculum Cycle (also known as the Teaching and Learning Cycle), plan a sequence of four lessons that will build the linguistic resources of students and culminate in students producing a text that demonstrates their writing skills. Justify how your teaching sequence addresses student diversity.
You must have a What, How, Why?
Justify your activities and link back to academic literature. Why are you doing this?
You will need to include details of teaching activities that –
Prepare students for writing (building knowledge of the topic/field)
Familiarise students with the text type (modelling the writing of texts and text deconstruction)
Provide guided writing practice (joint construction of texts) i.e., modelled writing
Allow for independent application of the newly acquired knowledge (independent writing)
At each stage of the four stages, identify appropriate learning outcomes, informed by curriculum documents (E.g. Australian Curriculum, Victorian Curriculum), provide explicit examples of your teaching (discussing what you will teach and how you will build the language and literacy skills of students paying attention to student diversity), justifying your choice of activities (why you think this is important to include), and drawing on unit readings and/or other academic sources, justify your pedagogical decision making.
The diversity aspect of this research paper is VERY IMPORTANT. Please make sure to address it extensively.
You should also provide details of assessment practices, e.g. formative assessment, opportunities for students self and peer assessment and the development a rubric for assessing students learning pertinent to the year level selected and the text type under consideration. Using the readings from the textbook and/or other literature sources, justify your assessment design.
The textbook used is “Literacy: Reading, Writing and Children’s Literature: 6th Edition (2020)”. If you do not have access to this resource, I can provide instructions for access to the eBook version I have purchased. Using this text as reference for the paper is very important.
APA 7 referencing please.
