1. What would you consider to be your top intrinsic and extrinsic motivators? Does either one motivate you more? Why is realizing ones extrinsic and intrinsic motivators so important to actually motivating oneself and others?
2. Based on the many theories covered in the module and on your own readings on motivation, which theory of motivation is the most applicable in motivating you? Do you think that this specific motivation theory will work for others, why or why not? Give examples.
3. What role does goal setting play in motivating you? How can you use this approach in increasing your motivation?
4. Expectancy theory would state that lacking confidence in yourself (low expectancy or low self-efficacy) may prevent you from accomplishing tasks you actually desire. In line with this, do you suspect that the fear of failure has prevented you from trying certain things in your life? How can you conquer this fear of failure? Even if failure is a likely outcome, how can you turn failure into something positive?
5. Think of your ideal job design and reward structure (e.g. pay, autonomy, benefits, responsibility, security, recognition) and describe it. How much of this is influenced by your generation, your current age, or maybe even the current state of the economy? Can you think of another generation wanting different things? Give examples.
