Many of the course learning resources ask you to think about what it means to be a leader. Is it possible there is a new paradigm of leadership emerging?

Aim: the aim of this assignment is for you to clarify and write your personal leadership philosophy.

NOTE: For the purpose of this assignment, a philosophy is defined as a set of principles that underpin the knowledge, values, theory(ies) and attitudes held by you, and that you use to guide your actions, reflections and decisions as a leader. This assignment reflects YOUR personal philosophy and therefore should use I statements.

You are encouraged to move beyond the literature in your own discipline. To support your views, cite at minimum of three peer -reviewed journal articles published within the past five years in your paper.

Structure:

Introduction follow the APA guidelines for writing an introduction. Your introduction should start with a statement about why YOUR philosophy is important and also include a purpose statement.

Three paragraphs: Each paragraph should explicate one principle of your philosophy (for a total of three principles). The paragraph should explain the principle, how you apply it, how it guides your leadership practice, and how this principle is supported by the leadership literature. The focus of each paragraph is on the principles of your philosophy and not general statements about leadership or leaders.

Conclusion follow the APA guidelines for writing a conclusion. Your conclusion should summarize the three main points to your philosophy and offer analytical statements about your philosophy.

Reference requirements: Three peer-reviewed papers must be used. These references should support your philosophy and demonstrate how your philosophy is linked to the literature on leadership.

CAUTION: Be sure that you are not summarizing the literature or providing general statements. This literature must be cited in such a way that is supports your philosophical statements.

Length: Maximum four pages

NOTE: Sometimes students slip into writing general statements about leadership. Be certain that each paragraph is about you and your philosophy and describes the values and principles that guide you and your leadership practice.

Assignment 1 will be evaluated for the following:

Thoroughness of analysis; multiple aspects of an issue are presented.
Presentation of paper is logical and arguments are clearly formulated.
Paper is well organized, writing style is scholarly, APA format is followed, and grammar, spelling, sentence structure are correct.
Assignment length is four pages maximum
