Prepare a short discussion paper (3-5-page double-spaced paper, excluding reference and title pages). Your paper should include scholarly references and a discussion question. An abstract is not required.
It is important that you differentiate trends and issues. As you select your trend, and write your discussion paper, keep asking yourself: “Is this information about the trend or information that is more about an issue?” Ensure you are addressing a trend rather than an issue. Use these questions to guide the writing of your discussion paper:
What is the trend?
When did this trend begin?
What are the historical, current, and future data related to your trend?
What conditions are supporting this trend? What is the stability/instability of these conditions?
Are these conditions likely to change? What is your prediction confidence?
How far into the future is it reasonable to predict?
What forms of data were useful for this trend analysis?
What is your evaluation of the data and resources you used to create your trend analysis?
What questions arise from your analysis?
