Reaction Paper 1 addresses ch. 1 Ethical Theories and Healthcare. This chapter covers a vast territory and numerous issues: the main ethical theories are Divine Command Ethics (Authority-based ethics); Virtue ethics; Natural Law ethics; Deontology; Utilitarianism. These classical moral theories are being considered in relation to healthcare. Throughout the semester we will be using deontology and utilitarianism in particular to establish the proper ethical act/actions in particular situations and the nature and seriousness of ethical violations.
