People try and some even succeed in committing suicide for several reasons. If you were in a job that brought you in contact with people who may be at risk of suicide there are several factors you must be aware of which may increase the risk of suicide among our Vulnerable Populations. When we consider our vulnerable populations we must place priority on our youth. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 1018.

These are some factors that may increase the risk of suicide among all youth include:

History of suicide attempts, self-harm behavior, and/or death by suicide in the family
Social isolation, relationship problems, or separation from family
History of depression or other mental illness / or substance abuse disorder
Stressful life event or loss
Impulsive, aggressive, or reckless behavior
History of bullying or being bullied
Easy access to lethal means
History of trauma or child maltreatment
Incarceration
