The term “effectiveness” relates to whether an agency performs what it intends to do, if its personnel work hard and efficiently, whether its actions and processes are well-suited to fulfilling its purpose, and whether the agency accomplishes its objective. In the public sector, measuring effectiveness entails comparing the objectives that can be accomplished with those achievedin other words, comparing input or output with the end goals to be attained. The public sector is responsible for discovering methods to make the best use of resources (human, material, financial, etc.) to guarantee that the population’s demands are met in the best possible conditions, with efficiency and effectiveness being essential aspects of good governance. The degree to which a company achieves its goals may be used to determine its effectiveness. An effective public service reacts well and quickly to the political needs of the day with policies and processes that are cheap in administrative cost, adequately targeted, fair, transparent, and pass the national interest criteria.
Organizational effectiveness is critical for program and service quality, reputation, and sustainability. Effectiveness is essential in ensuring that the needs and interests of clients are represented in public knowledge of the organization’s cause. Stakeholders form and use their views of organizational success to make critical decisions about the organization. According to studies, public support for incentive schemes is influenced by effectiveness skepticism.
In my opinion, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an excellent example of an effective government agency. The FDA regulates foods, dietary supplements, cosmetics, cigarettes, medicines, medical devices, radiation-emitting equipment, and biologics. The FDA, in my opinion, does a good job of weeding out substandard imported items and inspecting facilities for compliance.
The U.S. Postal office is an example of an agency that is ineffective. The USPS cannot compete with other delivery firms such as UPS, DSL, and even FedEx. The problem with capitalism is that you have to compete with other businesses if you want to attract consumers. You can either offer a better product or service or comparable service at a lower price. This is how competition works. In contrast, the USPS continues to hike costs while reducing benefits and deteriorating quality.
