Purpose: The purpose of this activity is for students to choose a topic of interest related to the course content and further explore the subject as it relates to sociology. This paper will also provide the information and documentation for your teaching project. Read the guidelines for the teaching project (see details below) before you start the annotated bibliography so you can select an appropriate topic.Annotated Bibliography: A bibliography is a list of sources used to research a topic. Annotation implies that you have summarized and evaluated the source. Unlike a review of the literature, where your sources are integrated and presented by themes, an annotated bibliography addresses one article at a time. For this assignment, you will need to find five professional sources related to your topic. Two should be articles from peer reviewed, scholarly journals no more than 10 years old. The others can be from authoritative government websites, newspapers, etc. Be sure to closely review the source to be sure that it provides current, accurate, and legitimate information. Look for items that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic, but make sure they are relevant to your teaching project. For example, while a report on research done in rural China may be interesting, it will likely not be relevant for your audience. If in doubt, ask me and I will look at it.There are two main types of annotated bibliographies, descriptive or analytical. Although you will have to consider the appropriateness of the sources and examine their legitimacy before deciding to use them, for the actual paper, include only descriptive information most relevant to your teaching project. Identify the most pertinent key points and summarize them in one paragraph per source. Topic Selection. The topic of the paper should be chosen from content that is discussed in the book or course material. Frequently chosen topics include comparisons of various cultural rituals around the dying process; the impact of grief; current issues surrounding death and technology; coping with death from different development perspectives; biomedical issues; traumatic death. Topics such as burial practices, forensics, or historical practices are also interesting. You may want to look at chapters 11 and 12 for ideas since we dont cover those. You will use these resources to create an informational brochure, so consider your intended audience.Feel free to choose a creative topic. Make it something you are really interested in or want to learn more about. If you are unsure that your topic is acceptable, run it by me first.Format1. Length. Appr. 4-5 pages (includes the title page). You do not need a reference page.2. Title page: Include your topic and intended audience for the teaching project.3. Format. UseAPA formatting. You no longer need a running head for student papers. You are expected to thoroughly proofread for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. I suggest that you submit your paper to a plagiarism checker prior to submission.Content. For each source, you will include the reference in APA format before the summary paragraph (single space). Summarize the article:Describe the main points that will be most useful for the teaching project. For the research project, provide a brief description ( a sentence or two) about the type of research, then summarize the results. Write in narrative form. You should keep additional notes from the articles to use in the teaching project, but only summarize the most pertinent information here in one paragraph per article. Do not write in the third person (sometimes the suggested style for an annotated bibliography, but not necessary here)
