As you may recall in the weekly overview course video, HoKwan has decided against using some formats of social media for selection practices. However, she jumped to this conclusion based on one research study which found that Facebook ratings by recruiters did not relate to supervisor ratings. Plus, she didnt think that applicants would like recruiters looking into their personal lives.
The decision-makers at Global University want to use social media in their hiring decisions. They have asked you to present them with evidence-based recommendations on the use of social media.
Instructions
Draft a 2-3 page (excluding references) double-spaced white paper that can provide a brief history of social media and offer practical recommendations. Be sure to ground your assertions in the Roth et al (2016) article as well as at least one other resource. Include all resources in your reference list on a separate page.
For your white paper, you can follow this rough outline. Be sure to use some kind of headings to separate each section.
Give a brief overview of the background on social media usage in selection (1/2 page)
Explain an arguments on why using social media is good or bad, using references from the course readings (and/or additional sources if you would like) to back up your arguments. (1 page)
Offer your final recommendation(s) on how to use social media, if at all (1/2 to 1 page)
You can view some sample white papers here, although yours will be significantly shorter than the samples. Remember to prepare this as a consulting deliverable, and therefore provide necessary context (e.g., a cover letter/executive summary, your name and contact information, your client organization, etc.), and write in a professional manner that is easily digestible by the client. APA style can be a guide, but it is perfectly acceptable to modify to provide a professional and accessible client deliverable (but do provide your references in APA format).
*You can create a fictional company name and background/executive summary*
