Explain which technique(s) you feel will be the best counseling technique for your student.

The student I chose for this case study is a student who is an 11 year old boy in the 6th grade from the Dominican Republic. He was diagnosed as emotionally disturbed. His birthday is 2/12/2010.

Paper of 8-10 pages on the specific disability of the student that you have chosen, and why he/she was recommended for counseling. Research case studies. The first part of the paper is a background of the student you will be counseling (eg, biographical data-DOB, Grade, Age, etc). Describe in detail the behavior of your student and why he/she was referred for counseling. Research the various counseling techniques we studied this semester.

The second part of the paper is the counseling session. See example below. Research the various session examples in the text and use the format the authors use for your session.

Explain which technique(s) you feel will be the best counseling technique for your student. Be specific, and justify why your chosen technique is the best approach. You must incorporate your student within the paper. If specific incidents that apply to your student are not in the body of the paper, your grade for the paper will reflect the omission. Important: You must support your work with citations from journal articles. Example: If you are doing your project on a student who has ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder), and in one incident your case study student gets out of his seat and begins defying his teacher, you will need to cite articles and studies about that particular behavior, and why you feel CBT is the best approach. Use any counseling technique we studied this semester.

Include at least a three pages Counselor-Student session;

example:

Counselor uses Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
Counselor. Hello John, I see you got angry at Ms. Jones last period. Can you tell me what happened

John. She asked me if I did my homework. I told her I forgot, and she yelled at me, so I yelled back at her. All the kids laughed.

C. Did you want to make them laugh?

J. Sometimes I like when they laugh at my jokes.

C. Were you telling a joke?

J. No, but when I yelled back at her, it came out as a joke.

C. I see. Do you think she may have gotten angry with you because you didn’t do your homework?

J. Probably…But she always yells at me.

C. What do you think you could have done to prevent Ms. Jones from yelling?

J. Do my work….I guess.

C. So, if you did the homework, she wouldn’t yell?

J. She always yells. But if I did my homework she probably wouldn’t

(keep the session going until you reach a conclusion)

Example: If you are doing your project on a student who has ODD, and in one incident your case study student gets out of his seat and begins defying his teacher, you will need to cite articles and studies about that particular behavior, and why you feel CBT is the best approach. A good way to explore your counseling technique is to print the dialogue as a script. Then choose a colleague, friend, family member, etc. to play the part of the student. You will be amazed at how you will make a difference to your counseling students.

AT LEAST 5 JOURNAL ARTICLES MUST BE CITcixED TO SUPPORT YOUR CLAIMS.
