Description: The core assessment for this course will be a culmination of weekly exercises into a specific policy brief. This policy brief will be a short document that presents the findings and recommendations of a research project to a non-specialized audience. Students will pick an issue related to aging.
They will pick one from the following list of six broad areas:
Topic: Long Term Care as part of the Affordable Care Act The purpose of this project is to synthesize material covered throughout each unit of the course. Each unit of the course, in addition to covering a specific topic, students also take a virtual tour of an online website that explores programs or services aimed to serve older adults. This policy brief will focus on a specific topic of interest, as it relates to the impact of policies on programs or services for older adults. This project specifically relates to the core learning outcomes of being able to specify social, environmental, and policy impacts on adult development and aging, and exploring research methods that are used in studying aging populations. It also relates to the Unit 7 specific learning outcome of being able to analyze, propose, and report on a policy recommendation as it relates to healthy aging.
