Short Paper 1: The first Short Paper will answer the following questions.
To what extent do individuals in your chosen group share common political beliefs?
To what extent do they operate as a cohesive unit when it comes to politics?
Why might these commonalities exist?
What might explain divergences? As you can see, there is one main question with three sub-questions listed above. These should all be answered.
Papers must be 1250 words in length at minimum but should be kept under 2000 words. There will be a penalty for over-reliance on cited quotations. Note for Proposal and Short Papers: These are not reports. Students are expected to present an argument; this means that the questions students generate should be conducive to making an original argument. In other words, the questions should ask “why and how” rather than “who, what, or when.”
