Instructions: You will write and deliver a persuasive speech using Monroes Motivated Sequence. You will have 6-8 minutes to persuade the class to adopt your solution to a social issue.

1. Select your topic from the provided list of social issues. To persuade is your general purposeNOT to inform as in the informative speech. There is a BIG difference in the two. The text will provide guidance for your speech preparation. Choose the best solution as your policy.

2. Research your topic. Your preliminary research should explore the issue and help you determine the specific course of action you support. This speech requires 5 references to be cited in your outline, 3 of which must be located using the Lone Star library resources. You must ORALLY cite 3 sources during your presentation.

3. Use the Monroes Outline Template as a guide to write the body of your speech. You must use complete sentences throughout the outline. You are speaking extemporaneously, so do not write it out like an essay – use outline format only.

4. Applying the strategies learned in Module 9. Write a complete introduction and conclusion.

5. Using your outline as a guide, create note cards with key words and phrases to use during your speech.

6. Practice your speech at least 6 times before recording. You should practice in front of another person for feedback (can be done electronically through video chat!).

7. You MUST have a presentation aid for this speech. If you choose to use a PowerPoint or other media slideware, it MUST be displayed on a large screen, such as a television for the audience to see.

8. You must stay within the time parameters or your grade will be reduced accordingly – 2 points for every 15 seconds you are over/under!!!

9. This is a formal presentation. You should dress appropriately for the occasion and control your environment. This includes standing and following the directions in the Camera Placement Instructions.
