My dissertation chapters 1-3 were completed in full and submitted for approval. My professor returned my manuscript and suggested I broaden by study because I can not study a specific subgroup of subjects. I need to revise my submitted chapters to reflect this feedback. Not all pages need to be rewritten. Some pages require a change in wording others need to be completely rewritten.
1. I have highlighted the subsections in the literature review that need to be revisited to broaden the literature to all students instead of solely economically disadvantaged students. Most of my literature consists of factors that may affect all students academic achievement but some of it is specific to economically disadvantaged students. Socioeconomic status will still remain a subtopic in the literature review but from my professors feedback, other topics will also need to be explored.
2. Teacher turnover will need to be a subheading added under relationship between teacher quality and student performance heading. OR it could be added as an independent heading if appropriate.
3. The curriculum and instruction heading will need to be expounded on further. This section is too short and needs to include additional research on how instructional programs affect student test scores.
4. Covid-19s impact on student performance and scores is a sub headed that needs to be added that is not already included in the literature review.
5. Next, my chapter three will need to be revised to reflect interview questions and literature that do not narrow down the research to solely economically disadvantaged students. I have highlighted these questions that need to be reworded. The supported literature for these questions also need to be rewritten to support all student outcomes.
6. It is important to note that my research site has a population of 97% economically disadvantaged students so the rewrite is not omitting the student demographics but instead broadening the factors that impact all student scores and proposed solutions to the problem. I have included the template, feedback from my professor, and completed manuscript.
Please ensure all sources that are removed from the research are also removed from the references. Any additional sources will of course need to be added to the reference list. Do not change the research site or organizational information.
