PSY 606 – Module 1 Assignment – The Diagnostic Assessment

Diagnostic assessments involve collecting information to make the most informed decision. In order to do so, we need to collect enough information to make the diagnosis but also factor in the time and costs to the client, as well as the efficacy of the assessment. This assignment examines the various information that needs to be collected and how to gain that information.

When making a diagnosis for a client, we often have to go beyond the symptoms they are presenting.

Describe at least three factors that you might have to take into consideration when starting to examine a client to make a diagnosis and why they are important.
Identify at least three ways we can gather information from our client to help inform the diagnostic process.
Assess the benefits and drawbacks of each of the sources of information.
Evaluate the significance of giving a client a psychological diagnosis, explaining the benefits and consequences.
