Based on your knowledge of slavery and Reconstruction as discussed in this weeks course materials, explain the purpose of Jim Crow. For instance, here are some possible topics you can discuss: Why did Southern leaders impose the Jim Crow system after Reconstruction? What did they want to carry out, and what results did they want when it came to the treatment and political/social/economic statuses of African Americans? What do you think motivated the key architects, enforcers, and participants of the Jim Crow system?
