A Poem A Day:: Day 258: The Red Wheelbarrow
This is a good one for starting a section on poetry. Read the following poem by William Carlos Williams:
“The Red Wheelbarrow” by William Carlos Williams
so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens
In your own mind, is this really poetry, or is it, perhaps, sort of a joke on the part of a poet? What makes it poetic? What prevents it from being poetic? If you read it using some of the tips and techniques in this module, what do you come up with?
