Currently, protects actions such as burning the United States flag and kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem are protected as Freedom of Speech under the first amendment. Should authorities in the United States punish these acts of expression, and should penalties be faced for those who engage in such activities? Why or why not?
2. Politicians and some United States citizens are critical of the press and those reporting news on various platforms. In what ways has freedom of the press being essential to free expression? In your response, cite any relevant cases/examples from chapter 4.
3. Explain the evolution of the selective incorporation doctrine and how state and local laws have changed (have federal laws consistently applied to the states). How has this doctrine been applied to the states (cite at least one court case example from chapter 4)?
