Write at least one page (typed, MLA format), in 3rd person point of view, listing and explaining what you are carrying. Be creative and have fun with it! Use many, if not all, of the items on your list. Start with a sentence describing the item and where it may be – then try to be more specific about the item- explaining something else about it – its purpose, its “weight.” Then move on to the next item… Think about your syntax (catalogue, polysyndeton, asyndeton, parallel structure, antithesis, alliteration, anaphora, anadiplosis, epistrophe, zeugma!) and incorporate rhetorical devices to make your writing more effective and interesting and beautiful. Think about employing metaphoric language: try to illustrate with imagery and metaphor and descriptive adjectives and power verbs (as good writers do) to add more about your personality through the items you are carrying, even if you have to stretch the truth a little bit…(hyperbole, understatement). Enhance your diction with loaded, colorful words instead of flat, colorless ones. You might think about varying levels of diction to enhance the movement between concrete and abstract items.
