Greetings!

The United States already has the Equal Pay Act, which establishes equal pay for equal work within the same establishment. The act looks at skill, effort, responsibility, working condition and establishment in determining if compensation is fair between men and women (USEEOC, n.d.) Being that Americans are so boisterous and willing to protest for equality you would think that this would not be a problem anymore in America. Even though we’ve made huge strides in getting equal compensation we are not there yet. Family dynamics are not what they once were either. Instead of the mother staying home with the kids these days there are more single parents or both parents working in the household. More and more households are relying on child care or after school care because it is not affordable to have one of the parents at home anymore. For this reason there is more of a demand for affordable child care.

The normative theories of ethical behavior would see them as the following:
Utilitarianism – They would support equal pay to comply with the Equal Pay Act in America.
Deontology – They would support equal pay in the work force because it’s the right thing to do and it’s our duty to equally compensate our employees.
Virtue – They would support the equal pay because it’s morally the right thing to do.
Justice – They would support equal pay because that is fair and just.
If I was looking to decrease the margin of male workers to female workers, I would first and foremost look at what the female employees are looking for out of a workplace environment. According to Byars and Stanberry, female employees place great value in better health, vision and dental insurance, work-from-home options, and flexible hours (2018). If I was looking to entice more female employees I would focus a great deal of attention to these three benefits. I would want to place my attention and funds in the area in which I will receive the greatest return on my investment. I don’t think it is realistic to strive for a 50-50 ratio of males to females but knowing what each demographic is looking for will assist in “even-ing” the ratio (Byars, S & Stanberry, K. 2018).

Thank you!
