I intend to focus on the advantages of employing technology and electronic medical data for my signature assignment project. Various technological devices help to improve the overall quality of patient treatment. Technology has enabled health care workers to better monitor their patients while also reducing the number of errors that may have been avoided. The Dexcom gadget, which monitors blood sugar levels, is one such technology. This is extremely beneficial to diabetic individuals, as well as more comfortable. This device does not require the use of needles to read blood sugar levels. Smart IV pumps are another example of cutting-edge technology.

The nurse can scan the medication, then scan the pump, and the drug administration data is sent to the pump directly. This helps to reduce the number of inaccuracies in manual programming or dosage problems. The electronic medical record necessitates meticulous charting, which can aid nurses in the event of a legal battle. Because, as we all know, “if it isn’t documented, it didn’t happen,” the emerging EMRs are complex, and charting takes time to become proficient and fast at. However, in the event of a lawsuit, the detailed documentation protects nurses and contains data that nurses may not even be aware is recorded. The scanning of barcodes in the electronic medication administration record ensures that the five rights of medicine administration are observed.

I have come to the opinion that consumers of both technology and health medical records need to be taught on how to use them. They are used as a source of information, but nurses must still verify and assess if there are any technical issues. Of course, technical issues arise, therefore nurses must be able to troubleshoot while still being able to give care without the use of equipment. I’ve also come to the conclusion that using electronic medical records improves patients while also providing nurses and health care providers with a security and alerting system. It aids in the detection of pharmaceutical delivery errors. It alerts nurses attempting to administer prescriptions if the patient is allergic, if the medication was not requested, if the patient is incorrectly identified, and many other things. This protects the patient from obtaining an incorrect drug, as well as the nurses from giving the medication incorrectly and creating dangerous side effects. There are a variety of reasons why technology and electronic medical records should be used to improve patient care quality. Because of the new technology that is being developed, it is constantly recommended that practice adjustments be made. Health care providers who use electronic devices should always receive technological training and electronic medical record updates.
