Research Paper

For this assignment, students will write an 8 (minimum) 12 (maximum) page essay (double spaced and
in 12-point font) that engages with a problem or question relevant to Environmental Sociology and to the
course topics. Students may choose to discuss a topic from one sociological perspective covered in the
course (use internal colonialism) or they may choose to compare and contrast numerous perspectives when discussing their chosen
topic. The papers must include a minimum of 2 course readings as well as a minimum of 5 and a
maximum of 7 additional academic journal articles or book chapters.
Academic articles must be peer reviewed journal articles (blogs, Wikipedia, or other online sources are
not appropriate).
If your paper discusses a recent news event (e.g., the recent hurricane on Canadas east coast) you may
include a news article from a reputable source (make sure to cite it and add it to your reference list).

However, this will not count as one of the additional 5 7 research sources.

The paper should be formatted according to APA formatting, citation, and referencing.
The papers will be evaluated for formatting, spelling, and grammar, integration and comprehension of
course concepts and theories, and the strength of the analysis and argument.
The research paper should demonstrate that youve engaged in your own research, that youve
developed a high-quality thesis statement, and that youve read and understood the course
materials.

The essays should include:
1. A title page
2. Page numbers on the top right corner
3. In-text citations formatted according to APA guidelines
4. A brief introduction that includes a thesis statement
5. A discussion of your chosen topic that draws on your own research and that integrates the course
materials
6. A brief conclusion the summarizes your key arguments
7. A reference list formatted according to APA guidelines
