Each student will research an issue assigned to her/him by the professor. All articles and research should be dated from 2018 to the present. It you are having difficulty finding good up-to-date articles please email the professor for guidance. The written research report should be 2000 words and follow the format below. Student references should consist of a minimum of five sources and a maximum of ten sources. The best article on the topic should be included as a SEPARATE file. So you will have two files submitted in Canvas Assignment. Your research report as a word or pdf and the best article as a word or pdf. The most current articles are the ones preferred. If you want exceptions to this, please consult the professor for advice. These articles can be from books, academic journals, popular journals, large newspaper articles, magazines, etc. The selected article should not be less than 5 single spaced pages or more than 20 single spaced pages. If the article exceeds this page limit you an edit out the non-necessary portions with the following technique. Use three dots … to go from last sentence to the next important information. Use this technique for paragraphs and not for individual sentences. Articles can be popular articles that are not peer reviewed but from reputable sources. The format for the research report is as follows:
Title of the Issue:
I. Introduction: (500 words)
Discuss the basic questions of your issue (both pro and con) and cite sources that are the most current in your essay. The Introduction lays out basic questions related to the issue.
II. Literature Review: (500 words)
In this section, the student should go deeper into the various perspectives that your research has shown on this issue. You should include an analysis of contrasting positions (pro and con positions) on the issue, not just from one perspective.
III. Summary and Analysis of the Best Article: (500 words)
In this section, summarize the ideas and arguments of the best article in your own words. If you want to quote directly from the source, you must put quotes around the sentences. If not, you will be cited for plagiarism. In this section, you can comment on the credibility of the argument and its strengths and weaknesses. You may want to cite other articles that refute what the writer has stated.
IV. Summary and Analysis of your Issue: (500 words)
In this section, you should summarize your research on the issue and provide your own conclusions.
V. References
A list of sources used is attached to the paper at the end.
