During the late 19th and early 20th centuries progressives took aim at corruption at the local city hall and the excesses of corporations in the form of predatory business practices, price manipulation, monopolies and suppression of workers using collective bargaining and unions to gain livable wages, safe working conditions, eight hour work day and child labor laws.
Discuss in your essay progressive efforts during this era towards making urban life tolerable for the working classes and immigrants.
