The research topic is Are empires oppressive by nature? Support your answer using evidence from multiple empires both ancient and modern. The paper must have both primary and secondary sources and take a clear stance on whether or not empires are oppressive by nature. My idea of a thesis statement is Empires are oppressive by nature because they used enslavement, physical harm, and imperialism to enforce political and social control. Examples of ancient empires you can mention is Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, ancient Egypt, the Viking Empire and the Mongol empire. Examples of modern empires you can mention is the Spanish empire, the French empire, empire of Japan, German empire, etc. I would like the paper to be formatted where you discuss the reason how an empire can be oppressive and then use examples from the ancient/modern empires.
