Fed Government Research
(300 points) You will write a 2000 2250-word research paper covering one of the topics listed on the announcements’ page of Brightspace (and below). In your research paper you will give a brief biography of important characters (especially any characters mentioned in the topic title); you will share the history of any important events (especially any events mentioned in the topic title); you will give the history and explanation of any significant ideas/theories (especially any ideas/theories mentioned in the topic title); you will give your informed analysis of the significance of the people, events, ideas/theories, as they relate to American political culture and the laws and policies of the United States’ government. You may also include some analysis of how your research topic relates to equity and freedom in America.
The purpose of the paper is to help you understand some of the underpinnings of the current situation in contemporary America and for you to communicate your analysis of how your topic has contributed to our current situation and what we can learn from your topic as we move forward.
Paper Information
1. You must contact me by email with your research topic by noon on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
2. TitleBe sure to include your name, class and section number, and the date you turn in the paper.
3. Be sure to properly cite any sources you use (use MLA) – Double Space (12pt font) – 2,000 to 2,250 word essay
4. Contractions–Don’t use contractions in formal writing assignments. (Get it?? Don’t!)
5. One-sentence Paragraphs–Do not use one-sentence paragraphs.
6. Avoid the use of both First and Second Person–Do not use “I” or “you;” the paper is not a letter (or a syllabus).
7. Make sure you include a word count at the end of the essay.
8. Your paper is due on November 17, 2022.
9. Turn in this paper to me through Brightspace and turn in a hard copy of your paper to me at the beginning of class.
10. I will dock at least a full letter grade from late papers. Please see the syllabus for details regarding late work.
11. Your essay will take at least two weeks to grade.
Grading Parameters For Papers:
1. A Papers
In addition to meeting all the requirements from the preceding section, an A paper must show signs of superior thinking and writing. No matter how well written the paper is, if it does not exhibit originality and significant analysis it will not receive an A. I reserve the grade of A for extraordinary efforts.
2. B Papers
B papers must meet all the requirements from the preceding section. If the paper is sloppy, containing many errors of spelling, punctuation, and grammar, it will not receive the grade of B regardless of how good the ideas are. B papers must exhibit an understanding the material presented in the chapter.
3. C papers
C papers are those that I deem to be average for students at a well-respected college. Typically, the high C papers exhibit a good deal of care in their preparation with few errors of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. High C papers are often well written but lacking in critical analysis and originality. Papers that reveal a clear lack of interest in the assignment or are sloppy will fall at least as far as the low-C
4. D and F papers
D and F papers are those that are late, poorly written, unoriginal, and fall short of the minimal requirements for the chapter essay.
