Information Literacy Project

This assignment requires the student to apply the skills and abilities gleaned from the Module of The Person as Discerning. After viewing the assigned materials from the module, including (a) an orientation video from Pius Library the Tutorial, and (b) the Purdue OWL website on annotated bibliographies. The student will select from among the following topics:
-critical thinking in everyday life
-the role of happiness and its relative value in a well-lived life
-the importance and use of expertise
-what a fair economic system would look like.
-what makes an artist a great artist
-the role and limits of science
The assignment will consist of a description of why the topic is of interest to you and how you would gather reliable resources for the project (200-400 words for this element of the assignment), and an annotated bibliography of no fewer than 8 sources. These may be from:
-historically important primary sources (e.g., Aristotles Ethics, Iris Murdochs
Sovereignty of Good, Fredrick Douglass Escape from Slavery, or Augustines Confessions), but no more than 4 of these.
-scholarly journals, essays, and books
-professional encyclopedias and scholarly websites
– the Oxford English Dictionary
Each source must be annotated explaining in one or two sentences the thesis/point of the entry, why it is a useful source, and its relevance to your interests. (Please note that in module 3, I will provide an example, from one of my own research projects, so you can see how its done.)
