Purpose
Judicial Review is the most important power of the Judiciary. Knowing where it came from and how it can be used is an important part of understanding how the United States political system operates. This assignment will help you understand all aspects of judicial review. The assignment is aligned with the following module learning objectives:
MLO 1. Relate the various three levels of the federal judiciary.
MLO 2. Explain the path of a lawsuit through the state and federal court systems.
MLO 3. Evaluate the review and decision process of the US Supreme Court.
Directions
Does the power of judicial review help or hinder democracy?
Explain what the power of judicial review is, and how it came about. Why is the Supreme Court, or why is it not, democratic? Think about the role of the court as envisioned by the founders and the constitution in formulating your essay.
Requirements
One to two full pages should suffice (Just one page is probably too short). Please properly cite resources and keep direct quotations to a minimum: use your own words and cite where ideas or arguments come from. Section 13.1 of the textbook is, of course, a useful and thorough resource.

Essay Formatting Requirements
Essay Length: Your paper should be 1-2 double-spaced pages with size 11-12 font, one inch margins, and saved to a Microsoft Word document.
Sources: It is fine for you to rely entirely on the video and textbook as your resources for the essay. However, you can search for other references that lend weight to your analysis. You may go to NOVA Library website Links to an external site.to search for other references.
Citations*: Please remember to cite your sources including where you found the them. MLA citation style is preferred. Whichever style you choose (MLALinks to an external site., APALinks to an external site., etc.), please be consistent. You should include a bibliography or works cited page at the end of your essay.
