What lessons can you draw from this experience that you can apply to your future practice as a human services or social work practitioner?

The assessment is a short reflective essay about a time you have engaged in emotional labour and what lessons you may draw from this for your future practice as a human services or social work practitioner. Emotional labour refers to the way that workers evoke or suppress their feelings for the purpose of paid work. Emotional labour is inherent to the fields of human services and social work but is also a requirement of other roles that involve frequent human interactions such as customer service, sales, hospitality, and teaching. And while it is not technically classified as emotional labour, everyone must, at times, manage their emotional states during interpersonal interactions outside the workplace.
Identify a time in your life when you have managed a difficult interaction by evoking or supressing feelings. This may be an example of emotional labour (i.e. when you had to manage your own emotions in a workplace) or an example from your personal life. Write a short reflective essay in response to the following question:
What lessons can you draw from this experience that you can apply to your future practice as a human services or social work practitioner?

Write your essay in first person.
