What is your perception of researchers and the role you believe they serve in the academic community? What kinds of mental and behavioral changes do you think you will need to make in order to become a successful researcher?

Critical Race Feminism, A Reader, Second Edition, published in 2003 by NYU Press, edited by Adrien Katherine Wing, is an important and classic text filled with essential essays that articulate theories and discuss social problems from an intersectional critical race feminist perspective. Select one of the essays
in this reader (The Fifth Black Woman, already attached in the document), and provide an update, expanding on a theme, an issue, a form of legal reasoning, or an authors body of work.

The thesis statement should express some kind of description of change (or possibly non-change) regarding your chosen topic. For example:

While the Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 was unsuccessfully applied in the case of Chambers v. Omaha Girls Club, this law has been applied successfully (or unsuccessfully) [other more recent related cases] because of [reasoning].

While Kimberl Crenshaw established the need for an intersectional framework in her classic essay, Demarginalizing the Intersection of Race and Sex in 1989, she has since gone on to write on [description of later works].

Include an introduction that briefly situates the theme, issue, legal rationale, or
author in the context of the piece in the Wing reader. The essay must include a thesis statement that is an arguable claim. Then prove the thesis statement using evidence from at least 5 sources.

Consider using Legal Source” database that contains the full text of scholarly law
journals, and detailed indexing for legal journals, law reviews, yearbooks, institutes, statutes, bar association publications, and university publications.

Be sure to document with page number in-text citations all paraphrased ideas and all quotations. Please use the MLA8 format for the Works Cited page and for in-text citations.
