(I will add my notes below so you know what to write about)
what went well– I was able to gain a lot of knowledge through the nurses and staff. i was able to learn a lot from the hospital setting and was able to shadow in three departments, the ICU(intensive care unit), the ER(emergency room) and med surg room which was just a regular rooms for regular patients.
What could be improved— i could improve my confidence to go and talk to patients. I would like to feel more comfortable, but i should’ve understood that all the patients just wanted my help. i asked a lot of questions but wish i asked more and i wish i got to see more units of the hospital.
one technique that i observed or learned was drawing blood. When i was down in the ER the nurse i was shadowing was kind enough to let me draw her blood and gained practice from it. She showed me all the steps and was so helpful throughout.
Some challenges i faced in this rotations was getting used to all the units on the floor and adjusting to all the settings. I was in three different departments with all types of patients. So getting use to each departments pace was something i had to keep up with. another challenge was that we had one or two patients that were difficult to work with but the nurses were so helpful.
this clinical rotation will help me in future practice because it really opened my eyes on how things really are and showed me the pace of all the nurses and staff. towards the end i got adjusted very fast and got excited to see all my patients on each unit. It continued to ensure to me that this is the correct field.
