1. Do we need to include a list of references on a separate page, but avoid in-text citations as the final output is a standard business memo?
No academic-format references are needed as this is to parallel the format of a memo that you would write in the business world. Of course, even there you would make sure to attribute anything you say to a source if you used it (e.g., ‘as reported last week in the FT, or ‘as Moeller wrote in his well-written textbook, Intelligent M&A’, …’).
2. As confirmation, the text in the main body of the report has a max. 600-word limit, the headers, footers, cover sheet etc. do not count as part of the 600-word limit, is this correct?
No, this is not correct, and I was very clear on this point in both the instructions and one of my first videos that there is a 600 word max. Think of it as, for example, an on-line application where you are limited by the system to XXX number of words. Or another way to check is to see what Word tells you the word count is, as that is exactly what I will use (and the instructions also specify that it must be in Word (or equivalent) format. As I said, I will stop reading at the 600th word. This does include headers, footers, cover sheet, etc.
3. For all the cases we can analyse and recommend lessons learnt from the perspective of the buyer or target. For example, in the case of Manchester United if we wanted to emphasis defence strategies, we can recommend future suggestions based on failures that occurred on this occasion and approaches that could serve better in future?
Yes, or even in other deals.
The key here is “yes or even in other deals” we should be looking to see if Glazer acquired anything post-deal of Manu or if the target company did. Which perspective are we writing this memo in. https://uk.practicallaw.thomsonreuters.com/0-200-8297?transitionType=Default&contextData=(sc.Default)&firstPage=true
