Consider the young person you are studying. You do not have to provide the person’s last name (for example, refer to him or her as “Alyssa J.” or “Juan L.”. You should indicate briefly how you know them, and of course how old they are and other developmental issues from the chapters being covered. Is he or she within developmental norms for his or her age? Emotionally? Physically? Cognitively? Socially?

For your assignment, you will be completing a Case Study. This study should consider the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development of a subject within the age ranges covered in the chapters covered for this week. To clarify, you will notice that the chapters are separated by physical, then cognitive, and then socioemotional development for infants and toddlers, then for early childhood, middle, and then finally adolescence. This week, you will focus upon early childhood (chapters 7-9).

You should go through the chapters, applying learning to your subject. The subject should be someone you know (or yourself), so that you can gain needed developmental information.

You should integrate your text reading, and outside research (peer-reviewed journals or educational databases from the RCSJ library website are acceptable). You should use at least two sources other than your text. These should be cited within the text using APA format (for help you can use the websites indicated in the “Web Links” section or an APA guide book), and should be listed on your References page. There should be parenthetical citations throughout your work (author, year, page). This shows application of learning. Information, even if paraphrased, should be cited THROUGHOUT. Not doing so constitutes plagiarism and you will fail the assignment. Please seek help if you are not sure how to cite sources in your work. Application of learning is the whole point of this assignment, so be sure to apply and cite learning specifically and consistently throughout. Remember that APA uses (author, year, page).
YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES: A paper or a power-point (you can do one or the other each time, and can vary as you decide). The paper should be approximately three to four double spaced pages, NOT counting your References page. It should be written in Times New Roman 12 pt. font with normal margins. A power point should be approximately 12 slides, with several links (videos as well as resources) included.

You should indicate briefly how you know them, and of course how old they are and other developmental issues from the chapters being covered. Is he or she within developmental norms for his or her age? Emotionally? Physically? Cognitively? Socially? Also describe any other information you consider relevant to his or her development. Be sure to integrate the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development of your subject. Be specific and consistent in applying terms, concepts, theories, and theorists throughout (and citing them).

Most importantly, I want to see you apply learned text information from the chapters covered. Consider culture, developmental theorists, gender, self-concept/esteem, family, peers, etc. and how these have impacted the subject of your case study.
