Analyze at least 2 journal articles to compare and contrast at least 2 evaluation methods for the implementation of a clinical information system, decision support system, or other application in 2 different sites from 1 type of setting in the continuum of care (physician group practice, group practice system, hospital outpatient clinic, long-term care facility, hospice, community health clinic, etc.). For example, as described in journal articles, you could choose the implementation of a(n):

Analyze at least 2 journal articles to compare and contrast at least 2 evaluation methods for the implementation of a
clinical information system, decision support system, or other application in 2 different sites from 1 type of setting
in the continuum of care (physician group practice, group practice system, hospital outpatient clinic, long-term care
facility, hospice, community health clinic, etc.). For example, as described in journal articles, you could choose the
implementation of a(n):
CPOE at a community hospital and at an academic health center (the community hospital and the
academic health center are 2 different sites from type of setting — the hospital)
Or
EHR at 2 different skilled nursing facilities (not in the same system, network, or company)
Or
DSS at a rural clinic and a large physician group practice (rural clinic and physician group practice are 2
different sites from 1 type of setting the clinic)
Submit a scholarly paper using the Framework in which you detail the processes of the implementations and the
evaluation methods. As you write the case study using the Framework, be sure that you:
Identify key decisions (as reported in the articles) related to the implementations success or failure during
the 6 phases of systems analysis and design [conducting preliminary investigation, analyzing the current
(old) system, designing the new system, developing the system, implementing the system, and maintaining
the system].
Compare and contrast the factors in the success or failure (or both) to factors described in the literature or
text as related to success and failure of implementations.
You may use these articles in your mid-term examination and in your comprehensive final examination.
Tip: Choose an implementation related to your systematic review and your Mock IRB Application (comprehensive
final examination). You can re-use the information that you obtain.
FRAMEWORK
The Content of the Case Study must explicitly address the sections of the Framework as described below.
When using the Framework, I expected you to supplement your interview or review of the literature with
supporting documentation from the textbook, other books, other articles, and other resources (such as
government web sites, technical reports, etc.).
Framework: Case Study
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Prepare an overall view of the case and the issues discussed. This section should be no more than 150 words and
should specifically discuss the essence of the case and its primary lesson.

BACKGROUND OF ORGANIZATION(S) OR SETTING(S)
Provide background on:
History (histories) of the organization(s) or setting(s)
Type of health care organization or setting, including services provided, management structure, financial
status (including annual revenues or persons served)
Strategic planning including environmental changes and economic climate
Culture of the organization(s) or setting(s)
Any other issues necessary to provide a context for the implementation(s)
SETTING THE STAGE
Describe the organization or setting in terms of:
Utilization of technology
Past advancements in technology, systems, or organizational issues
Management philosophies and practices regarding
o Role of technology
o Approaches to leadership, administration, and supervision
o Effect(s) of implementation(s) on management philosophies and practices
Players involved in the implementations(s) and their roles within the organization(s) or setting(s)
CASE DESCRIPTION
Provide a detailed overview of the implementation(s) in terms of:
Technology Concerns
Technology Components
Management and Organizational Concerns
Key Decisions (during 6 phases of systems analysis and design)
Conducting preliminary investigation
Analyzing the current (old) system
Designing the new system
Developing the system
Implementing the system
Maintaining the system
Method to Evaluate Success or Failure of Implementation
Factors in success or failure
Comparison and contrast with literature or text
CURRENT CHALLENGES FACING THE ORGANIZATION(S) OR SETTING(S)
Describe, in detail, some of the challenges and problems that the organization(s) or setting(s) faced at the completion
of the implementation. Describe the current status of these challenges and problems (such as resolved, continuing,
etc.).
