Imagine you are a colleague of Ms. Grays and have been able to see everything that you have seen in the television show, including the actual sessions with Eric. Take the 8 Steps of Ethical Decision Making Worksheet to work through each step. This paper should follow all APA requirements on the rubric, including a APA formatted reference page. Student must include a introductory and concluding paragraph. Paper must be at least 4 pages. Papers will be evaluated for grammar and mechanics.
1) For Step 1: Identify the Problem
Students must assess they would do as a professional colleague of Ms. Gray. The students must write the paper from the position of a co-worker having knowledge of “Ms. Grays” actions. Refer back to concepts like: confidentiality, privacy, nonmaleficence, boundaries, the slippery slope, professionalism, diversity, personal values, etc. The student must fully and clearly identify the ethical problem from the clients perspective with evidence of specific supporting factors.
2) For Step 2: Potential Issues:
Students must clearly identify additional contributing factors. Students should include cultural dimensions. This is where students would note how the client’s struggle with gender identity has influenced the issue. In addition, students need to answer if they would involve the client in the process of addressing the ethical dilemma and their reasoning behind their decision.
3) For step 3: Application of Ethical Codes
Students must specifically identify the Human Services Code of Ethical codes that apply to the identified problem. Students must state the standard and how it applies to this dilemma. Student must also reference another set of professional ethical codes (ex: NASW, APA, ACA, etc) and state how it applies. APA formatted in-text citations and a reference page are required.
4) For Step 4: Laws/Regulations
Students should highlight any laws or regulations that apply. This could be state or federal laws or agency regulations. Source should be noted by APA formatted in-text citations and on reference page.
5) For Step 5: Obtain Consultation
Student must clearly identify an appropriate professional they personally would consult with to process the ethical dilemma. Students must also state reasons for selecting that professional.
6) For Step 6: Probable Courses of Action
Student must identify multiple courses of action they could take to address the problem. Student of the problem by processing the implications for each course of action.
7) For Step 7: Consequences of Decisions
Student must covey a deep comprehension of the possible outcomes/risks/benefits/ limitations of each probable course of action list in Step 6.
8) For Step 8: Course of Action Taken
Student must clearly identify their final course of action taken to address the ethical dilemma. Student must evaluate the possible response of others and give specific consideration if the problem were to persist.
