Core Paper B Process and Description Essay
Overview: A Process essay will utilize process paragraphs in order to describe how
something is done. This essay will practice organization, clear language, and
developing one idea that explained in-depth to convey understanding from the writer to
the reader. You must include the following:
Topic sentence in each paragraph.
One thesis statement in the introduction.
Body sentences that follow the process pattern.
A concluding sentence in each paragraph.
You can choose to write in response about any of the following processes:
How to create something (Examples: how to cook a meal, how to build a table,
how to take a good photograph, etc)
How to fix something (Examples: how to change a flat tire, how to do a hairstyle,
how to clean something, etc)
How to succeed at something (Example: how to move to a new place, how to do
well in school, how to raise happy children, etc)
Your thesis will explain WHAT youre writing about and HOW to do it. For example:
In order to bake a birthday cake, you have to follow these steps.
If you want to do well in school you need to stay organized and do your best in
your classes.
Requirements: Your paper must be 2 pages in length, typed in 12-point font and
double spaced. SEE EXAMPLE ON BACK for formatting requirements. Additional
requirements that will affect your grade:
Paragraphs have a minimum of three full sentences.
Each sentence must be a full sentence with a subject and verb.
Appropriate grammar must be followed.
Important things to remember:
You should re-read your papers for typos, misspellings and to look for
grammatical mistakes.
Your introduction and conclusion should both include a statement of your thesis.
Final work should always be revised and edited before it is turned in.
