The American political system, with separation of powers, checks and balances, and federalism in which states enjoy considerable amount of autonomy and power separate and independence from the national government, reflects the Founders belief that concentration of power in one place would lead to tyranny of the majority and that the only way to tame power was to divide us among many centers of power and create a system of checks and balances. On the other hand critics of the American system argue that too many centers of Powers and checks and balances often leads to American political system becoming a system of deadlock and inaction and dominated by powerful interest group, making it difficult, if not impossible, to achieve long-term policy goals. Which side of the argument do you agree with and why?
