One of the Functions of Management that we discussed in Chapter One is Planning. Managers and Supervisors should work on strategic planning for the success of the business. Writing a good quality mission statement is a starting point for strategic planning.
Your assignment is to write a succinct, good quality mission statement for a hospitality business that you would like to own or manage someday. ((((( Write about a restaurant that I opened)))))
We discussed in class that a successful business needs the support of 4 different constituencies in order to continue to grow. Those four groups of people are; customers, employees, the community where the business is located, and investors. The mission statement should tell each of these four groups exactly what they can expect from the business….what promises the business is making to each group. The mission statement should convince each group to support that business, thus making the business a success and future growth possible. As a business document, this assignment must be type-written.
The required format for this assignment is:
Introductory paragraph: 1-2 sentences introducing the mission statement
4 short, succinct paragraphs of 1-3 sentences each focusing on each of the 4 constituencies listed above. Tell each what you promise them. Remember the example that we discussed in class. What can each group expect from you? What can you tell them that will win their support of your business?
Conclusion: 1-2 sentences to summarize and close.
