The purpose of the self-reflections is to help students integrate the learning from class. Each self-reflection poses a series of questions for students to respond to. All questions must be answered. Self-reflections can be written out as journals or essays (1 2 typed pages written in full sentences, separated into paragraphs, approximately one paragraph per question.Students should use I / me to talk about themselves. Students must also demonstrate an understanding of the relevant important concept.
Self-reflection 1:
Please respond to all of the following questions:
1) Why do I want to be an SSW? Where did I learn about the role and responsibilities of a social service worker? What experiences have I had with SSWs in my life?
2) What does an SSW do? Who does a social service worker work for? Who is a social service user or client?
3) What is one bias I have about people who access social services (service users / clients)? How do I know it is a bias? What does it have to do with power/oppression? Where did I learn it from?
4) Why is it important for me to work against this bias? How will I begin to challenge it over the course of this class?
