Assignment Purpose
This assignment is designed to help you deepen your understanding of the history of exclusion experienced by people with disabilities and the actors/actions that have contributed to a more inclusive education system. It is also designed to help you begin to think about further change that must happen to continue to make the U.S. education system more inclusive, a topic that we will reflect upon all semester.
Assignment Overview
What did education look like in the U.S. prior to the passage of Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)?
What are Section 504, ADA, and IDEA? How did they impact education for students with disabilities?
What problems still existed after the passage of IDEA? How have they been addressed? Focus particularly on legal developments between 1990 and today.
Briefly address what, in your view, still needs to be done to improve access to education for all students.
This paper should be written using an academic voice. You must include in-text citations and a reference list in APA format. A minimum of three sources is expected. Exceptional Lives (Turnbull et al, 2019) should be one of those sources.
